“Roof Work On Pleasantville’s Village Hall Draws Criticism

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. — With water leaking into the village headquarters, Pleasantville is embarking on a roof replacement project that one Board of Trustee member isn’t too happy about.

“It’s certainly not that I feel this project doesn’t need to be done,” Trustee Brian Skarstad said. “It’s just this roof consultant doesn’t have my entire confidence.”

At a Pleasantville Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month, the board voted 4-1 to move forward with the bid for the construction process on the new roof, which VIllage Administrator Patti Dwyer says could cost $60,000 to $90,000. The same roof architect, Russel Watsky, was hired to do repairs on the roof recently and did not expect more fixes to be made so soon, Skarstand said that.

“He was the one who was brought here last time. And he guaranteed that it would be a lifelong roof, and we paid a lot of money for that,” Skarstad said. “It shocks me that we have work at this point.”

The village did not say when the roof was last worked on or how much it cost.

After looking at the roof, Village Mayor Peter Scherer said the work was more than just minor tune-ups.

“We have a number of leaks in this building right now,” Scherer said. “We have quite a bit of work to do up there.”

The village will accept bids for the work in spring and will begin the project shortly thereafter. It has not been determined how long it will take to complete. The majority of the roof’s gutters and drainage systems need to be replaced, Dwyer said.
