A meeting was held on December 13, 2012 at the Nazzaro Community Center.

Represented by contractor Garry Rizzuto, applicant Jose Faria was not present at the meeting, but has filed an application for a private roof deck accessible by the top fourth floor apartment unit.

The building owner does not live at the property and several residents objected to absentee landlords adding roof decks because of ongoing noise and loud party issues in the neighborhood. Meeting attendees asked why such a large, 12-foot by 24-foot deck was proposed for private use. The contractor said the applicant would consider something smaller. Still, residents were concerned that the deck would turn into a party zone.

In addition to the potential noise issues, the structural integrity of the building and its ability to support a roof deck were questioned. The contractor said that an engineer has inspected and approved the plans.

Contrary to NEWRA, the Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) unanimously supported the roof deck proposal. Both NEWRA and NEWNC votes are advisory to the Boston Zoning Board of Appeals that will make the final determination on the zoning relief request.”
