 “Bentonville Superintendent Relocates to Roof After Office Fills with Food Donations

The Bentonville Superintendent made a promise to students that if his office filled up with food donations, he would relocate to the roof.

Now he’s watching his community from a higher perspective.

“I think when people can have fun and do something for someone else, that’s a pretty good formula,” Superintendent Mike Poore says.

He made good on his promise, relocating atop the Bentonville school administration building after accepting food donations from the community for more than a week.

“We had success,” Poore says. “Over the last week, it really picked up.”

The stacks of food that sit in Poore’s place will be sent to the Samaritan House as donations for its “Snack Pack” program, feeding needy families.

“We’ve had business leaders that have brought stuff in, marched over, there was a group of fourth graders from Sugar Creek came over all carrying bags,” Poore says. “I don’t know if there is a more giving place, we should all take stock in that this time of year, that so many people have been willing to give.”

Poore’s outdoor office is only temporary, but he just may find himself in the same spot come next Christmas.

“We’re planning for next year, that’s the perspective, we’re already ready for next year,” he says. “We may have a whole office suite up here next year. That’s the goal.””
